What Webhook means
A webhook sends event data from one system to another through an HTTP request when a defined event occurs.
Unlike repeated polling, a webhook pushes information near the time of the event. Delivery is not the same as processing: endpoints can be unavailable, requests can be duplicated, and events can arrive late or out of order.
How it works
The source signs and sends a payload to a configured endpoint. The receiver authenticates the request, validates the schema, acknowledges quickly, and processes the event idempotently. Retries, dead-letter handling, monitoring, and versioning make the connection dependable.
Practical use cases
Starting follow-up after a form submission
Sending call outcomes to another system
Updating a workflowWorkflowA workflow is a defined sequence of steps, decisions, actions, delays, and outcomes used to complete a business process. after an appointment event
Assume every webhook can arrive more than once. Use event identifiers, signature validation, logging, and idempotent processing before attaching business actions.
